The photography of Gabriel Engelke
Gabriel Engelke is a real good skater. He is apparently also a real good photographer. Somehow I stumbled upon his website the other day and was really impressed. I had to hit him up and ask a few questions.
Where are you from, where do you live and how old are you?
I am a swede but I live in Oslo Norway, but I decided to make a move to Barcelona in the end of october, I am exactly 30 years old.
How did you get into photography?
My father introduced me to it but the real inspiration came from all the skate I'we worked with over the years.
What is your favorit subject (to shoot)?
People in general.
How did the wallride series come about?
It just happened ,, full speed and some luck.
Influences in photography?
I don't really have any special ones. I'm just getting inspired by looking at random artists on the net or at exhibits, and come back to some favorites to if they have some new work out.
Influences in skating?
Its kind of the same as with photography. I'm getting influenced by people I'm meeting and seeing in mags or on the internet and its changing all the time, and thats how skating and photography is, its an art form and changes all the time too. That's why i love it so much.
Favorite skate part ever?
Jerry Hsu, bag of suck.
Famous last words?
Be brave.
