Skate Cred
While most skaters who sell their talent to huge corporations fail to maintain their cred I can't help to almost accept this tacky ass Casio clip with Lil' Stevie.
So why isn't Steve's Casio commercial ruining his career as much as Greg Lutzka's K-Swiss clip, Sheckler's Proactive commercial or Shaun White (yes he's a snow/skate hybrid) American Express commercial?
Well Shaun's AmEx commercial can't ruin his image since he's already had more mainstream media exposure than Paris Hilton (and I bet it paid nicely) and he's now more associated with Tiger Woods, David Letterman and Jay-Z than John Cardiel.
Rumor has it Sheckler got paid about $1,000,000 (more than P Diddy) for one days work for his Proactiv piece and by then he'd already alienated himself from anyone who reads Thrasher anyway.
Lutzka is just, well Lutzka.
For anyone who wants to have longevity and be respected by other skaters a good start would be not to obligate yourself to having 18 stickers on your board and a custom made New Era / Pepsi hat.
If you want to live a good life and forget about the millions of hate related articles about you on the internet you can cash in nicely and live in more luxury while the big corpo companies use your talent in wack advertising.
The choice is there... for some. And imho Stevie got away a tiny bit more since he.. well, since he's Stevie.
If you haven't seen this K-Swiss clip with Lutzka I suggest you watch it now. If you can make it through that is.
More Stevie clips, old but good.
Just look at his ss heel 13 sec in.. timeless.

im gonna start using proactive, it seems awesome
