Last Walz part V: The Coke Room.
Was entertaining last night and I made a pretty good lasagne for the guests. Wonderful bechamel sauce. The trick is to use a lot of butter from the start, and then never to forget the nutmeg. - Never forget the nutmeg, even if you just use a little, get it? But you don't want to know about Italian food right now, you want to hear about the dirty little secrets of "The Last Waltz".
So let's take that freight train all the way to the myth about the coke room, shall we?
To understand how one of these rooms would be designed you have to think about how expensive cocaine is and was. Even if Pablo himself would've sponsored the party I don't think anyone could just enter and take a sniff-sniff. I mean, there must be some kind of a system, right? Otherwise every freckin' roadie and caterer would've been in there all the time. Of course I don't mean that roadies and chefs are more likely to party than others, that would be rude towards two of the career choices I respect the most.
You don't agree about chefs and roadies? Try carrying a Hammond B3 with dual Leslie cabs up four floors, and after that you go on and make a perfect creme brulee. If you find no success in the latter you can always go to Le Rouge in Old Town and Philip will provide you with the best one in Stockholm. But no one wants to carry your Leslies, believe me.
Well, were was I? Coke room, yes. We agreed that you need a system 'cause the superstars don't wanna mix with the others. I mean they can be real donnas. We've all heard about Madonnas famous riders where she wants "rooms covered in white" and all. Well, here's the original I suppose.
I don't want to point any fingers by making lists, so you'll have to do some serious research yourself, but I will tell you what to look for: Yellow buttons on jackets. Notice them on numerous performers. It's hard to see exactly what they are, but I think it's smiley buttons, and we all know what smiley faces are normally associated with. I think they are the key to the system. I think they are the key to the coke room.
To make it easier for you here's the last song from this six hour long concert when everybody join on stage. Look for the yellow buttons.
Six hours is a long time, Springsteen only lasts about three. But he is also known for never indulging in any illegal substances. Remember where you read it first.
